Folk tradition and artistic inspiration

Sisukord:Uurimus keskendub eesti suulisele traditsioonile ja käsitööle kui kunstilise inspiratsiooni allikale. Autor täiendas oma teadmisi traditsioonlise kullassepatöö ja käsitöö alal, et toetada oma loometegevust. Ta ühendas uurimistöö ja kunstiku eneseväljenduse, otsides seoseid traditsioonilise ja modernse kullassepatöö vahel.

Kärt Summatavet kohtus kahe eesti rahvakunstimeistriga: Setumaal tutvustas Anne Kõivo oma käsitööd ja hõbedakogu, Kihnus tutvus autor Rosaali Karjami rikkaliku käsitöö ja kindamustrite koguga.

Raamatu kolmanda osa moodustab Kärt Summataveti autorilooming, mis on inspireeritud rahvakunstist. Ehted tutvustavad naisterahva elukaart: «Lapsepõlv ja tüdrukupõlv», «Noor naine. Emadus», «Vana tark naine».


This book and the exhibition «Childhood and Girlhood» (2000), «Young woman. Motherhood» (2001) and «Wise Old Woman» (2003) are based of field interviews with two talented bearers of tradition Anne Kõivo and Rosaali Karjam. Their arcs of life, their relationship with handicraft and the traditional way of thinking teach us to see this invisible tie, expressed by a traditional community through visual communication.

When Anne Kõivo speaks about her ornaments, her whole arc of life comes to life, together with its pattern and colours. Anne Kõivo carries her songs, thoughts and the wisdom of her foremothers as proudly as her ornament collection.
We can see that there is a whole world of relations and customs behind Rosaali Karjam's patterns and a more attentive listener could even see them in one's imagination. The mitten patterns are sagas of Kihnu island and the process of their rediscovery has just started.
